NEPHEW TOMMY GOLF TOURNAMENT - NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA
Radio personality Thomas Miles, better known as "Nephew Tommy" in the entertainment world, held his annual golf tournament in New Orleans, Louisiana on June 26, 2022.
Nephew Tommy is known for making practical jokes on his morning radio show. He has frustrated hundreds of people with the prank call while making millions of people laugh at his comedic genius.
HIs charitable golf event was held at the ENGLISH TURN golf course, a venue that is known for hosting the PGA event The Zurich Invitational. It was a unique golf course with southern charm and character. My first time, out to the golf course, I am always excited to see how each hole is going to suit my eye. It was good to have a hall of fame golfer, Mr John Brown from Southern University, playing in my foursome. He was voted into the SWAC Golf Hall of fame years ago, lives in the New Orleans area, and came out to help us compete for the win.
I bumped into one of my basketball friends KEVIN ADAMS in the parking lot. He was in town, pulled up to the tournament to play, and had not been assiged to a team. The tournament coordinator announced that he was looking for a team, so I made a good GM decision and put him on my team right away.
We got started with 3 players because our fourth player, ALLEN HOLLIMON from Nationwide Investigations and Security, was a little late as he was flying in from Houston just to play at the tournament. He showed up on the 3rd hole, where we had already missed 2 birdie putts and were even par at the time.
Then Allen showed up. Immediately he sank a birdie putt for our team to put us at 1 under par, and that got us started.
We played well together. We challenged each other with best drive bets and closest to the pin bets among ourselves. Between the 4 of us, we were always putting for birdie or eagle, and our putters were hot all day.
The highlight of the day was on our last par 3 of the day. Kevin Adams hit a shot that was money right off the face of the club. As soon as he hit it, we were all screaming out "Hole in one - Hole in one!" The ball hit the green took 2 small bounces, rolled and disappeared. All golfers know how the ball sometimes disappears on the green from the tee box, so you just wait until you roll up to the green and see it.
After we all hit our tee shots, we got the green to find the ball in the hole. A hole in one indeed! We went crazy! Screaming and jumping all over the place like we did it! It was Kevin Adams first hole in one, and my first time witnessing someone do it. Electric vibes for sure.
We went on to shoot a 54 for the team score, and we really didnt use any mulligans. Guys were locked in, playing off of each others positive momentum, and having a great time whille we were at it.
One thing that made this tournament stand out was all of the food. There was a tent at every other hole with food, real food like chicken sandwiches, gumbo, cajun dishes, cheesecake, and other comfort foods that our teammate John Brown couldnt resist. We joked all day about how Brown had only come because he knew there would be food on every hole.
Finally, we wrap it up, get to the club house to see if we won, only to find out we are in a tie for 2nd with another group with 54. We couldnt beleive it. We shot a 54 with maybe 2 mulligans max off the tee. And for some tie breaker rule, we ended up taking 3rd place, so we got a sleeve of MAX FLI golf balls, much to the dismay of my teammate ALLEN HOLLIMON.
"Man I flew down here i need some hardware," he said. "And these golf balls aint even Titleist balls!!" I thought it was so funny.
They gave Kevin Adams a nice prize for hitting the hole in one, the food was super great at the awards ceremony, and I would say the event was a success. No joke about it!
